Some History
- Touchstone innovaré formed nearly 35 years ago when three of the
top community behavioral health providers in Grand Rapids, Michigan--Spectra,
Harbinger, and Transitions--merged to
form Ti.
- Harbinger had developed the first Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)
program in Michigan in the early 1980s. The State of Michigan designated
Harbinger as the statewide Demonstration and Training Site for every Community
Mental Health Board in Michigan. Through the efforts of Harbinger,
Michigan became one of the earliest--and most rapid--adopters of ACT methods
in the country.
- Ti was one of the earliest providers in Michigan to offer a full
Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program (including an early Clubhouse Model) to
consumers seeking recovery.
- Nearly seven years ago, Ti joined
with the Cherry Street Clinic (the local Community Health Center/Federally
Qualified Health Clinic) in creating a unified Treatment Team to manage the
physical and mental health needs of shared clients in a holistic manner.
They have continued to deal with some of the most complex healthcare issues.
- In partnership with the Community
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Network of West Michigan, Ti chose several
years ago to forge a service structure able to operate within a fully
capitated funding structure. Ti has managed to operate its services with
excellent clinical and financial outcomes.
- Ti began over four years ago to review and revise every treatment
method, training approach and organizational culture in the light of emerging
evidence-based practices. In effect--as good as its service
delivery had been--Ti believed (and the research literature suggested) that
more could be done. Thus Ti "started over."
