- Capacity for forming compassionate mentoring relations with consumers
- Belief in recovery as the expected end point of treatment and

- Evaluation of the course and severity of the illness
- Knowledge of the disorder's impact (emotional/behavioral/social) on the
individual
- Appraisal of the consumer's experience and understanding of the

- Assessment of the individual's strengths (both personal and social)
- Engagement of the consumer
- Motivational Interviewing to engage the patient
- Personal Goals defined by the individual with the disorder
- Agreement on treatment and rehabilitation objectives
